For decades and three generations of the Wade family have been dealing or processing scrap metals here in their 12-acre yard. Some of the scrap collection includes very old and complete cars and busses. Obviously what interested me is the aircraft parts they have acquired. The aircraft have been dismantled or actually cut up before they arrived here. Piled up high in most cases the dismantled aircraft are very difficult to identify the type, let alone identify a serial or registration.
Previous visitors have tried a lot harder than me to identify these aircraft parts, I have used their reports to to help me with my image captions. On the day of my visit I met Gregory Sharp whose grandfather started the Wades Salvage Inc company and the nephew of Andy Wade the current owner. He was extremely welcoming and was happy for me to make my way around the yard. His only concern was that I might get lost (or buried?) and so he took my mobile number. They apparently welcome/allow photography groups to run group sessions (including with models) here and from what I saw this would be very worth while activity. |
