Hawker Hurricane (P3717 'SW-P' registered G-HITT) was built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd in 1940 as a Mk.1 Hurricane and passed to the RAF in June 1940 initially with 253 Squadron at Kirton in Lindsey before moving to RAF Kenley in August. Pilot Officer W Samolinski from Poland flew this fighter against Messerschmitt BF 110’s claiming a Bf 110 over Redhill during the Battle of Britain before it was damaged and later returned to Hawkers for major repairs. Following modification to Mk.2a standard as DR348 it was transferred to Russia by sea.
In the 1990s it was recovered and it began its extensive restoration to airworthiness which was achieved in March of 2017.
